What is CONTOURA® Vision Topography-Guided LASIK?

CONTOURA® Vision is a type of Custom LASIK that improves upon the traditional Wavefront-guided Custom LASIK procedure by using today’s most advanced mapping technology to map the unique contours of the surface of the cornea. Pacific Vision Institute is the first clinic in San Francisco to perform LASIK with this new technology. The scanning procedure samples up to 22,000 elevation points on each eye (vs. 200 points of standard wavefront-guided LASIK) to create an exquisitely detailed unique vision profile for each patient. A treatment profile is created based on the analysis.

With CONTOURA® Vision, the measurements are only focused on the cornea (the clear window of the eye where most vision imperfections are located) and uses up to 22,000 topographical points to map the surface. This creates a highly detailed scan showing microscopic peaks and valleys that can be smoothed out by the advance laser system. Using decades of experience and analyzing patient outcomes, the surgeons at Pacific Vision Institute are proud to have developed our own nomogram to treat our CONTOURA® Vision patients. Nomograms are mathematical calculations and formulas used to create a vision treatment profile for each unique patient.

Topography-guided LASIK provides a higher level of personalization for your vision correction. CONTOURA® Vision provides an extremely detailed look at the unique characteristics of your eyes. The topographic map of your eye reveals precise and individual eye structure problems that could not be identified with earlier technologies. Because your LASIK procedure involves reshaping the cornea, many patients report better eyesight than they achieved wearing glasses or contacts.

What Can I Expect During Topography-Guided LASIK?

Your topography-guided LASIK procedure will only take approximately 15 minutes with very little discomfort. The length of your procedure will vary depending on your current prescription and the degree of correction required in your case.

Topography-Guided LASIK Recovery

Eye protection will be provided to you after the procedure is complete. Although you will likely notice a difference in your vision immediately, many patients continue to see improvements over the next few months as eyes fully heal from the procedure.
